Helen Hanto and her Border Terrier, Pippin, at the NJ Cocker Spaniel Specialty earned their 2nd Novice “A” CD leg. Pippin showed beautifully, despite being a bit unnerved by the judge wearing a beret and standing very, very close to where Pip had to do his stays! In addition, Helen was awarded a prize for being the “Oldest Qualifying Handler” at the trial!! It is certainly noteworthy to mention that Helen has been training and showing dogs for about 24 years – so nice to see her accomplishments recognized and honored in this way!
Kathy Acosta and her Border Terrier, Bindi, showed at the Border Terrier National Specialty in Centreville, MD 9/29/09. They competed in Open “A” and were the only qualifiers in a class of 8 entries. On Saturday, Gryphon scored 196 for 2nd Place in the morning trial and 196 for 2nd Place in the afternoon trial and on Sunday, he scored a 198 1/2 for 1st Place and High in Trial!! Again, consistency and attitude were obvious in these performances. Both Rowdy and Gryphon earned their Canadian CDs. Duncan scored a 185 and 4th Place on Sunday for his 1st Canadian CD leg. Breaker executed some 'creative' down stays, managing to flip his body in every direction in order to keep any eye on the action in the other rings, and Bindi perfected staring and posing for photos (even if no one was taking any!). None of these 'talents' resulted in any qualifying scores, but we let them be in the photo anyway ("Canada" Dogs)!

However, it is not a record to win the first Challenge trophy - that record belongs to Sandy’s Beardie, Winston. Winston went HIT at the BCCA specialties 3 years in a row, 1996, 1997, 1998. He was the first Beardie to retire a Challenge trophy from any of the events at a BCCA specialty.
